AVIONICS Training by OSTROUMOV Ivan
Chapter 11. Displays

11.6. Boeing EFIS concept

EIS of B777 is built on the principle of IDA. B777 is an example of IMA. All avionics systems of the aircraft are incorporated in information management system (Aircraft Information Management System - AIMS). The structure of the EIS is shown on Fig. 171.

Fully integrated displays built on the principle of IDA consisting only of integrated modules of information display are used in the structure of the EIS. Information from AIMS is transmitted through digital information exchange channel ARINC 629. Information exchange channel is reserved to ensure the required level of reliability. Since each Iof DA displays performs all necessary functions for information processing and management, each of the displays can display information in any format: navigation, piloting or system. Thus in case of failure of one of the displays pilot can obtain any information necessary for the flight using another display. General view of the B777 cockpit with EIS displays is shown on Fig. 172.

Fig. 172. Electronic indication system of B777

Electronic indication system of B787 consists of five large format displays 12 × 9,1 inches (Fig. 173):

  • navigation display for each pilot)
  • multi-function display (for each pilot)
  • control display (in the middle)

Multi-function display can display:

  • map
  • flight plan
  • air navigation map
  • surrounding aircraft
  • engines parameters and information from other aircraft systems

Control display is connected with FMS and is used for programming and receiving information from FMS.
