AVIONICS Training by OSTROUMOV Ivan
Chapter 3. General requirements to avionics

3.3. Avionics requirements according to ARINC

The large number of different manufacturers of avionics encouraged to develop appropriate regulatory and reference documents to standardize aircraft avionics. International radio navigation corporation «Aeronautical Radio Incorporated» (ARINC) has developed a series of standardized documents are advisory in nature and cover almost all avionics. The main purpose of these documents was the standardization of dimensions and connecting connectors, input and output electrical signals and breeding wires to the corresponding contact block connections [39]. This standardization allowed to maintain or replace in case of cancellation of certain systems of any manufacturer at any airport. The list of such documents is constantly updated, and the documents themselves are constantly evolving.

Classes of ARINC standard

1) Characteristics ARINC - determine the shape, appearance, functions and interfaces of avionics;
2) Specification ARINC - determine the physical construction or placement of avionics;
3) Reports ARINC - provide general information necessary avionics manufacturers concerning the practice of using avionics equipment.

Overall, all ARINC standards are divided into some series. Classification according to series generation avionics are given in Table. 2.
